MY NFL DIVISIONAL PLAYOFF WEEKEND PICKS

 In Larry's Blog

Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas runs for 80 yds for a touchdown to win the first ever non sudden death overtime game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round of the AFC playoffs Sunday January 8, 2012 at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. AAron Ontiveroz, The Denver Post

So far, my predictions have been on the mark.  But the divisional playoff picks gets much tougher.  I expect these 4 teams to play their best football of the season.

PITTSBURGH @ DENVER

A lot depends on the health of Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown but I just don’t think Pittsburgh can “steal” another one.  It would be different if the Steelers were at home but, in Denver, I’m picking the Broncos.  They will maintain their cool, show discipline and not fall for the imitation factor….as the Bengals did last week.

KANSAS CITY @ NEW ENGLAND

New England definitely has the edge at home.  They’re well rested and know what it takes to win in the playoffs.  I’d like to see the young Chiefs pull an upset…but those are tough odds in New England’s house.

                                           SEATTLE @ CAROLINA

Carolina is also well rested and still a little sore from loosing to Atlanta which might be just what they needed to keep them on track to the Super Bowl.  Danger is if Carolina scores too soon and too easily early in the game and looses their focus.  Either team can come from behind and beat you in the 4th quarter……but I’m going with Carolina and Mike Shula on this one.

                                               GREEN BAY @ ARIZONA

I picked Green Bay to go all the way before the season started.  Then they had to fight through a mid-season slump (mostly due to injuries.)  Making it to the playoffs didn’t look promising but they’ve had some lucky breaks and fought their way back.  If Rogers can stay healthy the entire game……I think Green Bay can win this game.
