Super Bowl 50 Recap
Like most I spoke with, I was anticipating how the offenses would perform in the game and paid little attention to how or what the defenses would do. I was surprised by how both the Carolina defense and the Denver defense dominated. Most of the rules changes in the NFL are meant to enhance high scoring, making the game more exciting for spectators. New rules help protect the QB and receivers to promote more pass plays. This, and more, limits the defenses ability to dominate. I just didn’t think defenses could literally take control of a game anymore. But how can we deny the Broncos defense won Super Bowl 50? Denver’s special teams played an outstanding game as well.
Outside of a few needless penalties, Denver performed much like a well coached, disciplined team from the 70’s. For the most part, we were watching “old school” football. The offense played it cool and protected a small lead from the start then doubled-down on the abilities of their defense….and it worked!
Carolina, a team that was +20 in turnovers for the regular season, fumbled and threw interceptions, which Denver converted to points on their side of the board.
As previously stated, I smelled an upset. However, I was not a total believer in the Broncos defense and special teams capabilities. But now I am.
High-powered offenses still win games…but high-powered defenses can win championships!
