SOUTHEAST ALASKA EXCURSION
Well…it’s June in Alaska and that means the King salmon are running!
Audrey and I just returned from our first fishing trip of the season. We joined some family and friends for a stay at Tanaku Lodge in Elfin Cove. We met up in Juneau at Ward Air where we boarded a DeHavilland Otter floatplane for our scenic flight to the lodge – all arranged by DreamTrips, the travel club I’ve been telling you about.
Audrey and I first visited Tanaku Lodge several years ago while producing, “North to Alaska.” We returned in 2010 to produce a few more episodes. So this was our third trip to Tanaku Lodge. As a result, we’ve watched this family operation grow, literally. TheMeier’s two daughters and a son were just small children on our first visit. They’ve now grown in to confident, hardworking young adults who help run day-to-day operations.
This trip was not unlike trips in the past to Tanaku. A full lodge enjoyed fishing for kings, halibut and rockfish. Everyone took home a mixed bag of fish. We saw whales, a few bears and plenty of eagles. We thoroughly enjoyed the great meals, service and company.
Tanaku Lodge remains one of our favorite destinations in Alaska. We look forward to returning again soon!
Thank you DreamTrips!
